Work Progresses On £57m Armagh Link

Preparation work on the A3 Armagh link road scheme between Armagh and Monaghan has begun following the announcement by the Road Service of the preferred ‘out of town’ route a few months ago.

The proposed 6.9km long carriageway road will link from the A3 Portadown Road on the east side of the city to the A3 Monaghan road on the southwest side of the city is expected to be completed within the next five years at a cost of £57m.

As part of the preparation work officials are proceeding with the necessary environmental, planning and land acquisition procedures and Best Property Services have met with the Road Service to represent landowners affected by the new road - a link corridor in the North’s strategic road network.


Members of the agency’s Compulsory Purchase (CP) team are currently actively engaged with AMEY Consulting on behalf of a number of land and property owners affected.

It’s a process they are well versed with, being involved on a daily basis with many types of compulsory purchase schemes, airport and rail station developments during the company’s long history. Most recently the CP team have represented clients affected by the A4 dual carriageway (Dungannon-Ballygalley), the Newry bypass and the N1 Dundalk Road.

Conor Mallon, director of Best Property Services, said: "Work has already commenced on initial trial pits for ground investigation works. Whilst works are at an early stage, it is important for landowners to obtain proper advice early.

"The specimen design for the road is evolving at this time, and it is essential that any required changes are factored in," he added.
