Concrete Federation Launches Heritage Guidelines

Energy Minister of State Sean Power has officially launched new Geological Heritage Guidelines for the extractive industry - a joint initiative involving the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Irish Concrete Federation.

The guidelines are intended for Irish Concrete Federation members so that they may follow best practice and receive clear information in relation to any proposed quarry or related development or land purchase.

They are also intended as a useful template for any quarry operator in addressing geodiversity issues, and thereby contributing to the databases of the Geological Survey of Ireland.


The federation recently published a drivers handbook, targeted at drivers within the aggregates and concrete industry, to enable them to carry out their functions to the "highest possible standard".

The handbook addresses almost every aspect of the business, from vehicle weights and dimensions to driver licensing, vehicle maintenance and road worthiness governed by legislation.

A spokesman for ICF said: "While the handbook will cover the legislative aspects, the overall objective is to provide guidelines and procedures that will facilitate a safe and efficient operation and will provide all involved with the necessary information to comply with best practise."
