Construction work is expected to commence on new multi-million euro community facility in Dublin next week.

Lord Mayor Eibhlin Byrne is scheduled to turn the first sod at an official ceremony on Tuesday.

The Bluebell Community Facility will be located on Bluebell Road, Dublin12.

Lord Mayor Byrne said she is "delighted" to mark the beginning of construction on the project.

"This multi-million euro development will have a purpose built sports hall, changing facilities, community offices, youth facilities and will be the first of its kind in the area.

"It will be of enormous benefit to the local community, in particular the youth, who have been waiting a long time for a sports and community facility like this in the area," she added.

Bluebell Community Facility is expected to be an important addition to social and community infrastructure in the South Central Area and Kilmainham.

It will also include a multi-purpose seminar and meeting rooms with a roof terrace overlooking the adjoining football pitch.

Bruce Phillips, Assistant Area Manager in the South Central Area’s Kilmainham office, said: "The local community is to be congratulated for having worked tirelessly in securing funding for this facility."

Funding is being provided by Dublin City Council, Bluebell Community lottery and various government grants.

Patrick Brock & Sons Ltd have been awarded the contract for the project and construction is expected to take 15 months to complete, with the facility becoming available for use early in 2010.
