As vital health and safety works undergo the ferry service slipway in Portaferry, asphalt resurfacing of 650 metres of carriageway including The Strand, Castle Street, 200 metres of Loughshore Road and the ferry service turning circle and queuing area, will be included in the forthcoming scheme.
Road users can expect daily closures from Ferry Steet to Loughshore Road from 8am to 6pm, Monday 14 October to Friday 15 November. The road will be open to traffic overnight and at the weekends.
During these times there will be a signed diversionary route via Shore Road, Cook Street, Ballyblack Road, Ballyphilip Road, Cloughey Road, High Street and The Square.

Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times, however, some minor delays may be experienced.
The resurfacing of these main access roads to the ferry service in Portaferry which will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of all who use it, including businesses and residents in the areas.
This combined effort will limit further disruption and delays to road and ferry users in the future.
The Department for Infrastructure has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however, road users are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
The Department will keep the public informed of any change in the expected completion date.
All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
