Kildare County Council has announced that all 19 design entries in the Town Centre Living Architectural Design Competition will be displayed in Kildare Library until 28 November.

The competition that was held by Kildare County Council, in conjunction with the Royal Institute of the Architects in Ireland (RIAI) and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH), sought proposals for a social housing site on the Station Road in Kildare Town.

The Town Centre Living Architectural Design Competition aimed to progress the Government's Town Centre First policy objectives of compact growth and town-centre revitalisation. The competition also sought to encourage more architectural firms to compete for social housing design projects.

Shay Cleary Architects have been commission by Kildare County Council to develop the project, funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. The final detailed design will be made available to the public in early 2024 prior to commencing construction in late 2024.

The 2nd place entry was submitted by Davey & Smyth Architects and 3rd place by Donnelly Turpin Architects.
