Essential Pipelaying Announced In Co Down Village

Construction News Image
Work on a new housing development in Lisbane, Co Down, is set to be unlocked with new wastewater infrastructure.

NI Water is working to install new wastewater infrastructure along The Straits in Lisbane as part of the wider project.

Expected to get underway on Monday 06 March, the essential pipelaying will involve the installation of 860m of storm sewer and the construction of associated manholes between No. 30 The Straits and No. 5 The Straits. In order to carry out this work as safely as possible, a road closure will be implemented on The Straits with a diversion route in place along Lisbane Road and Quarry Road.

This section of work is expected to take around 10 weeks to complete.

Tom Lester, NI Water's Project Manager said: "To facilitate the work in the safest possible manner, The Straits will be closed to through traffic. Vehicular access for residents will be maintained from either Killinchy Road or Lisbane Road, depending on the location of works.

"Details of the work and the associated traffic management arrangements have been circulated to local residents and signage to notify the wider public has been erected.

"The approved diversion route during these works will be via Lisbane Road and Quarry Road. We would advise motorists travelling in these areas to allow more time for their journeys while this work is ongoing.

"Unfortunately, due to the size of machinery required to undertake the work, coupled with the narrowness of The Straits, we are unable to provide access to pedestrians, cyclists or runners through the moving works area for health and safety reasons.

"NI Water and AG Wilson would like to thank the public for their patience in advance of this work, and take this opportunity to highlight to residents that construction sites are dangerous areas for unauthorised persons, especially children. We would appreciate your co-operation in ensuring that children do not play in or around the site or machinery. Working areas will have warning signs in place to protect the public from any hazards. The public are advised to stay away from working areas for their own safety.

"The project team from NI Water, Atkins and AG Wilson would like to convey our thanks to local residents and the wider public for their patience and cooperation while we undertake this essential work to serve new housing in the area. We assure you that we will strive to complete the work as quickly as possible and keep disruption to a minimum."

The wider programme of improvements involves an upgrade to the associated wastewater pumping station and the installation of sewers in Hazelwood Lane. The overall programme of work is due to be completed in August.
