Major Dublin Housing Project Set For Construction

Construction News Image
The key O'Devaney Gardens project in Dublin city is set to take a major step forward later this month.

Construction will begin on 1,044 A-rated social, affordable and private homes as part of the project.

The development will be delivered in four phases and will encompass two new parks, dedicated cultural and community spaces, shops, a café and a crèche. The development has been designed to foster community spirit, enhance resident wellness, and provide a sustainable lifestyle. This will support the development of a sustainable, enterprising community that stimulates a thriving local economy, and meets the needs of future residents.

Led by Dublin City Council and Bartra, the project will be one of Europe's most sustainable developments. A key feature of the development is that the land usage will be optimised for living not driving. Located immediately adjacent to key national transport infrastructure, and less than 3km from O'Connell Street, O'Devaney Gardens will be a much greener and socially integrated place to live. Residents will have access to a Car Sharing Club providing hybrid and electric vehicles to help residents travel in a more eco-friendly and sustainable fashion.

Phase 1 of the development will see the delivery of 379 A-rated social, affordable, and private homes, a park, crèche, and retail units, in the northern area of the site, adjacent to Thor Place and Ashford Street.

Throughout construction Dublin City Council and Bartra are committed to engaging with all community stakeholders, in particular the residents of the neighbourhoods adjoining this new community. The local area consultative forum will now be re-established offering all residents the opportunity for representation through their established residents' associations. All residents' associations will be invited to take part in the forum along with Dublin City Council, Bartra, the contractor and Local Councillors.

Colín O'Reilly, Assistant Chief Executive, Dublin City Council, said: "As we know, the delivery of Housing has become an issue of national importance and getting projects to site and maintaining momentum is key to managing the ongoing Housing situation. These 1,044 A-rated social, affordable, and private homes, as part of what will be one of Europe's most sustainable residential developments, will play a key role in Dublin City Council meeting Housing For All targets."

Mike Flannery, CEO Bartra added: "At Bartra we are delighted to partner with Dublin City Council to deliver 1,044 badly needed, A-rated homes at the former O'Devaney Gardens site. The site is ideally located with a vast array of amenities from the Phoenix Park to the City centre, all within a 15-minute walk or cycle."
