Wastewater Infrastructure To Unlock Newry Housing Development

Construction News Image
Essential wastewater infrastructure works have been scheduled to bring forward a new housing development in Newry.

NI Water is leading the scheme which will involve the installation of 450m of sewer pipe and the construction of manholes between Glenvale Crescent and Watsons Road.

Work will begin on Monday 13 February at Glenvale Crescent and progress towards Watsons Road. It is expected to take eight weeks to complete.

To facilitate the work in the safest possible manner, Glen Hill will be closed to through traffic. Access for residents will be maintained at all times from either Watsons Road or Dublin Road, depending on the location of works. Residents in Glenvale Crescent and Glen Hill Park will only be able to access their properties from the Dublin Road during this work. Pedestrian access along Glen Hill will be maintained at all times.

The approved diversion route during these works will be via Watsons Road, Liska Road and Dublin Road.

Normal working hours will be 7:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday; however, it may be necessary at times for work to be carried out outside of these hours.

Speaking about the scheme, Ian O'Hare, NI Water's Project Manager, said: "NI Water and BSG-Phace take this opportunity to highlight to residents that construction sites are dangerous areas for unauthorised persons, especially children and we would appreciate your co-operation in ensuring that children do not play in or around the site or machinery. Working areas will have warning signs in place to protect the public from any hazards. The public are advised to stay away from working areas for their own safety.

"In advance of work getting underway at Glen Hill, the project team from NI Water, Atkins and BSG-Phace would like to convey our thanks to local residents and the wider public for their patience and cooperation while we undertake this essential work to serve new housing in the area. We assure you that we will strive to complete the work as quickly as possible and keep disruption to a minimum."
