Sewerage Upgrades Progress In Comber

Construction News Image
The sewerage infrastructure in Comber is set for a significant upgrade.

Work is progressing to improve the infrastructure along Belfast Road.

Led by NI Water, work was completed to the junction of the A22. From Monday 30 January, a lane closure will be in place on the A22 to facilitate the safe installation of a section of new pipe adjacent to the Comber Greenway.

Speaking about the upcoming sections of work, Peter Ferguson, NI Water Senior Project Manager said: "Our contractor AG Wilson has laid all of the new sewer along Belfast Road and from Monday 30 January will be laying a section of pipe in the grass verge off the A22 adjacent to the greenway. To facilitate this installation in the safest possible manner, a lane closure will be in place around the works area for a period of around three weeks.

"During this time temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A22 to manage traffic flow and AG Wilson will strive to complete the work in the shortest possible timeframe.

"Once this section of pipe has been completed, pipelaying will move to the verge of the greenway, where the new sewer will connect into the existing network. Work on Comber Greenway is expected to get underway around 13 February and will take approximately three weeks to complete. Access will be maintained at all times for pedestrians and cyclists while this work is ongoing.

"NI Water and AG Wilson take this opportunity to thank local residents and the wider public for their patience and cooperation while this essential work is ongoing. While every effort will be made to minimise disruption, we would advise road users to leave extra time for their journeys during this next phase of pipelaying. We would also ask users of the greenway to be mindful of construction works in the area in late February/early March."
