Funding Unlocks Two Key Cork City Projects

Construction News Image
Two key projects in Cork city are set to begin development with new government investment.

Cork City Council secured funding for the projects as part of the €27 million national investment from the Department of Rural and Community Development's Town & Village Renewal Scheme.

Minister Heather Humphreys announced the largest ever investment under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme, designed to combat dereliction and breathe new life into rural towns and villages.

In Killeens, funding of €25,000 has been secured to identify current village assets and build a greater sense of community. The project will also provide aesthetic improvements to the entrance to the village in terms of signage and landscaping.

The other Cork City Council project sees €49,999.50 secured in Glanmire for a feasibility study for the establishment of a community enterprise hub.

Both applications were prepared in partnership with local community groups.

Joanne Burke from the Killeens Renewal Group said: "I would like to thank Cork City Council for helping the group to build a case to eventually secure funding. We welcome the €25K award and look forward to working with the City Council in the New Year."

Welcoming the announcement, Lorraine O'Neill added: "The Glanmire Area Community Association welcomes the announcement of funding, which is a very positive development for Glanmire and builds upon existing funding to support the local community."
