A key £4 million programme of wastewater improvements is nearing closer to completion in North Down.
The final phase will see pipelaying delivered on an essential new pipeline between Brompton Road & Stricklands Glen Wastewater Pumping Stations (WwPS). This forms part of the wider multi-million-pound investment to improve water quality along the North Down coast and reduce the risk of out-of-sewer flooding.
Work will get underway on Monday 09 January 2023, led by BSG on behalf of NI Water.
To facilitate the pipelaying in the safest possible manner, the section of coastal path between Brompton Road WwPS and the fork in the path leading to Downshire Road, will need to be closed from Monday 09 January. Signage will be in place to advise the public of this closure and the associated diversion route. Unfortunately, for health and safety reasons, access onto the coastal path from residential properties during this section of work will not be permitted.
BSG plans to keep the section of path from Stricklands Glen WwPS down to the fork in the road open while pipelaying is being undertaken in that area.
Catherine Watkins NI Water's Project Manager said: "NI Water and our contractor BSG would like to sincerely thank local residents and the public for their patience while we strive to complete this important project which will deliver environmental improvements, such as improved water quality along this stretch of the North Down coast.
"We will make every effort to minimise the number of path closures and complete the work as quickly as possible. Signage will be erected in advance to advise the public on any necessary closures and associated diversions as pipelaying progresses."
