Local Fianna Fáil Senator, Mary Fitzpatrick criticised the local authority after it was granted more than €120 million earlier this year for the regeneration of the North Inner City including the Fruit and Vegetable Market, Moore Street Market, Moore Street National Monument, Parnell Square, Mountjoy Square and the Five Lamps.

"Despite this significant funding, DCC appears to have failed to make any meaningful progress on these regeneration projects which would address dereliction, create new services and amenities, support existing businesses, encourage further investment and breathe new life into the city," Senator Fitzpatrick said.
"This inaction is unacceptable and begs the question as to whether or not regeneration of these important city sites are beyond the competence and capacity of DCC.
"I have highlighted my concerns with the Chief Executive of Dublin City Council, Owen Keegan and look forward to receiving an update as to when the regeneration works will commence."
