Mercury Engineering has strengthened its senior team with a key appointment.

Jo-Ann Garbut has been named the new Group Sustainability Director after months of working closely with Mercury's sustainability champions and other key stakeholders to lay the groundwork for taking its sustainability ambitions to the next level.

In the new full-time role, the key focus areas include reporting on a high-level dashboard supporting the four Sustainability Duties at Mercury:

• Being an employer of choice;

• Having responsible partnerships;

• Maintaining a minimised environmental impact; and

• Supporting the wellbeing of local communities.

There is also a focus on implementing a tracking tool for responsible waste practices, furthering awareness training and live events for employees, and setting targets and tracking outcomes for reducing Mercury's carbon footprint.

A member of Mercury's Executive Management Team, Jo-Ann initially joined as Global People Director in 2019 where she focused primarily on organisation development and transformation projects. Over a two-year period, working closely with Mercury's Senior Management and the HR department, her efforts have led to successes in realising many of the company's goals and strategies.

With over 20 years' international experience ranging from Engineering, Construction and Project Management to advising and supporting global brands on organisation development projects and becoming future-ready, Jo-Ann understands both the strategic focus and execution excellence demands that come with supporting an organisation in a fast-changing environment. Having implemented change management initiatives at national and international levels and coaching stakeholders and leaders from various nationalities and cultures, Jo-Ann's global perspective and hands-on leadership experience have been instrumental in achieving desired outcomes.

She brings a unique and valuable approach to leading sustainability at Mercury and holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a master's degree in Organisation Development.

This new appointment comes as part of Mercury's responsible business plan that forms a key part of its wider Beyond50 strategy. Under the Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillar of Beyond50, the plan is titled 'Our Planet, Our Duty'.
