New Water Mains Installed In Meath

The water supply in Ballivor, Co Meath, has been made more secure following the installation of new mains.

Irish Water worked with Meath County Council to install approximately 450 metres of new modern high-density polyethylene (plastic) pipes along the L4015 to connect two existing supplies.

GMC Utilities Group Limited delivered the work on behalf of Irish Water, helping to secure part of the network in Ballivor where supply is being supplemented by tankered water by reducing the need for ongoing tankering and safeguarding the water supply to homes and businesses in the area.


These works were delivered as part of Irish Water's national Leakage Reduction Programme which involves an investment of over €500 million between 2017 and the end of 2021 and helps provide a more reliable water supply to Irish communities, reduce high levels of leakage and improve water quality.

Speaking about these works, Matt Thomson, Irish Water's Regional Lead, said: "These works were vital to ensure a more secure water supply to homes and businesses in Ballivor and are part of a significant investment by Irish Water to safeguard the water supply. The installation of new water mains will also help conserve this precious resource and improve levels of service for homes and businesses in the area. We would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation while we delivered this needed improvement."

Irish Water and its partners in Meath County Council will continue to monitor the performance of the water network and undertake additional works as required to safeguard the local supply.
