Burst Watermain Disrupts Galway Supply

Irish Water is set to deploy a team to carry out urgent repairs on the water supply in Galway city.

The utility is working alongside Galway City Council to address the issues caused by a burst watermain on Siobhan McKenna Road.

The watermain, which supplies the Clifton Hill and Tonabrucky reservoirs, is being repaired by a crew as quickly and as safely as possible.

Customers in University Road, Lower Salthill, Salthill, Knocknacarra, Barna, Moycullen and surrounding areas will experience disruption to their supply such as low water pressure and water outages today, Tuesday 07 September, while the repairs are underway. Dedicated water service crews have mobilised and repairs are expected to be completed today.


Typically it takes two to three hours after repairs are completed to restore normal supply to all customers affected by an unplanned outage but it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand-washing. To ensure the safety of the public and crews carrying out the repairs to the burst, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted.

Irish Water is encouraging customers to conserve water while these essential works are underway. There are ways to conserve water that will not impact on hygiene or handwashing. Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply such as not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible.
