Consultation To Launch On Proposed Changes To Traffic In Dublin

A public consultation is to launch on proposed changes to traffic in the Grafton Street area of Dublin.

The changes follow on from the Weekend Pedestrianisation Trials that took place on five streets over six weekends during the months of July and August.

An online survey conducted by Dublin City Council into the trials received 1,588 responses. 95% of respondents were in favour of permanently pedestrianising the streets, however the council is aware of opposing views from a number of retailers and there are also difficulties with accommodating access to existing car parks.


Dublin City Council is now proposing that four streets should be either traffic-free, or have sections of them traffic-free, daily after 11am.

Those streets are:

• Anne Street South from the junction of Dawson Street

• South William Street from the Brown Thomas carpark exit to Exchequer Street

• Drury Street from just after its junction with Fade Street to the Drury Street carpark

• Dame Court From Exchequer Street

Dublin City Council is not proposing to pedestrianise Duke St.
