Plea For Airbnb Homes To Be Offered To Councils

Owners of Airbnb properties across Ireland have been urged to offer their units to their local authority for HAP tenancies.

Chairperson of Dublin City Council Housing SPC, Alison Gilliland has promoted the initiative to enable accommodation for those in homeless accommodation amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Labour councillor added: "With falling tourists numbers the knock effect is a fall in demand for AirB&B. Offering a tenancy through the local authority is mutually beneficial for the AirB&B owner and the individual or family seeking a tenancy.


"Dublin City Council has a very effective place finders service that can support with the allocation of tenants and the paperwork.

"Given the particular difficulty experienced by individuals/couple in finding affordable accommodation, one bed apartments are in particular need by Dublin City Council at the moment.

"AirB&B owners who wish to get on board should contact their local authority without delay."
