NI's Best Construction Students Celebrated At Ceremony

Northern Ireland's leading construction students have been celebrated at the recent Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Lecture and Awards evening.

The prestigious event saw certificates dished out to 25 candidates who successfully passed their CIOB examinations last year through QTAS and Training LMS training organisations.

Taking place at Nutts Corner Training Centre, CITB NI presented the Best Overall Performance Award to Andrew Hatton for his results in the CMP programme in 2019.

The best full time final year Ulster University Student BSc (Hons) Construction Engineering & Management was also presented to Scott Glenn and part time student was awarded to Ryan Shaw.

GCSE students who achieved top grades in Construction and Built Environment in 2019 also secured accolades, with Matthew Orr gaining 1st place, Tim Bailie, 2nd and Richard Carson, 3rd.


Barry Neilson, Chief Executive CITB NI, who presented the students with their certificates, said: "CITB NI are proud to host these annual awards in partnership with CIOB. Congratulations to all who achieved recognition in their professional exams, not only have they have invested in themselves, they have also invested in their companies and the local construction industry. As an Industrial Training Board CITB NI are focused on driving investment in skills and training, we work with contractors, professional and trade bodies to support training initiatives and skills development for the overall benefit of the industry."

He continued: "We are delighted to also present awards to those young people who have excelled at GCSE in Construction and Built Environment. We congratulate them for undertaking the subject and acknowledge their success.


"Construction is a rewarding industry with a variety of opportunities on offer from project management to onsite roles with prospects for career enhancement and good earning potential. The popularity of the subject is growing and over 7000 pupils have undertaken the exam over the past decade. We provide help and guidance on the GCSE Construction topic via our textbook and we support local schools by providing 25 complimentary books to each school annually. We hope that by studying and excelling at this level students may possibly consider a career in a dynamic industry with lots of opportunities to choose from."

The awards were preceded by a presentation by local contractor GRAHAM on the delivery and construction of The Grand Central Hotel.
