New Dublin Co-Living Scheme Sparks Political Opposition

A new 210 bed co-living development has been approved on the Old Navan Road in Dublin, sparking political criticism.

Local Green Party Dublin West candidate, Cllr Roderic O'Gorman voiced his shock and disappointment at the An Bord Pleanala decision, slamming Fine Gael for pushing this model of accommodation.

Cllr O'Gorman said: "This decision is completely the fault of Fine Gael's housing policies. The Guidelines that Minister Eoghan Murphy introduced in 2018 to allow for co-living developments and high density building out of the city centre are the direct basis on which An Bord Pleanala made this decision. There has been no thought put into the co-living model: what protections will be in place for the tenants, who will look after these buildings if the rental companies sell them on?


"No doubt the Taoiseach and local Fine Gael reps will be criticising this particular decision. They need to understand that the decision is the direct result of their Government, their Minister and their policies."
