New €160m Medical Technology Facility To Be Built In Limerick

Construction News Image
A new €160 million medical technology facility is to be built in Castletroy, Limerick, doubling previous plans to invest €80m in the area.

Global company Edwards Life Sciences announced its intention to build a larger plant, securing a huge investment for Limerick and creating up to 600 jobs.

The California-based firm is a global leader in patient-focused innovations for structural heart disease and critical care monitoring.

The new facility is scheduled to open in Limerick in 2021.

Local Fine Gael Senator, Kieran O'Donnell said this investment is confirmation that "Limerick is an attractive place for international investment", due to its great transport links, proximity to Shannon airport and talented workforce.

He added: "As Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar confirmed during his visit to Limerick, we are planning for the city to grow by at least 50 percent over the next two decades. This will be achieved through enhanced regional accessibility, improved international connectivity and a competitive, educated workforce.

"The latest CSO figures published this week show that the Live Register in Limerick City decreased over 60% since 2012 when Fine Gael launched its Action Plan for Jobs. The Government is working to ensure that Limerick continues to grow and develop to the benefit of all its citizens."
