Dangerous Cork Properties To Be Demolished

Two dangerous properties in Bandon, Co Cork, which caused a significant road closure have been approved for demolition.

Cork County Council secured approval from the District Court to demolish the homes on Oliver Plunkett Street.

The property owners failed to act on statutory notices issued to them, resulting in the council seeking an order to carry out the works.

Cork County Council's Chief Executive, Tim Lucey said: "I welcome the early decision of the Court to grant Cork County Council the authority to undertake the works which the council had required the property owners to do. It is regrettable that the owners of the properties in question have not acted fully on foot of the statutory notices served on them in late January this year and that that has prolonged the time which we have had to close off part of Oliver Plunkett street. Primary responsibility has always rested with the property owners to remedy this situation. We will continue to treat this as a priority due to the strategic positioning of the property within the town of Bandon and will now proceed swiftly to demolish the buildings and make the area safe so that we can reopen the street at the earliest possible date."
