The council has identified over 200 acres of land at Ballymastone, Donabate for the delivery of public and private housing, which will be affordable to buy or rent.
With the land having the capacity to deliver approximately 1,000 to 1,200 homes, the council has now embarked upon a market sounding exercise with the private sector on current housing market dynamics, as well as to gather industry views on the delivery of residential housing development on local authority-owned lands across the county. A procurement process will then follow to find a developer for the project.
Elsewhere, the council is continuing work to deliver social and physical infrastructure to support the future of expansion of Donabate. Work is ongoing on the new Donabate Distributor Road, while an Educational and Recreational Campus will also be delivered on council-owned lands at Ballymastone. In addition, the area is also due to be linked to Malahide via the Broadmeadow Greenway, which is currently at the pre-planning stage.

AnnMarie Farrelly, Director of Planning and Strategic Infrastructure at the council, said: "We are strongly focused on increasing housing supply in Fingal and realise that we need to work with the private sector to ensure that we produce the right mix of housing on our lands."
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Anthony Lavin, added: "As a Council we are working on many fronts to meet the demand for housing and this market sounding exercise is an opportunity to take on board the views of the private sector as we look to develop lands in the County."
However, Donabate Portrane Community Council has called upon the council to hold a full community public consultation into the plans, as is happening in Balbriggan with a similar plan at Castlelands.
"FCC is not planning public consultation on the Balllymastone lands in Donabate, which is inconsistent and unfair," a spokesperson said.
"People on the Donabate peninsula, which is chronically short of infrastructure, deserve to be consulted on such a large house-building plan."
