Boil Water Notice In Co Galway Lifted

A boil water notice in Leenane in Co Galway has been lifted following advice from the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Over 200 Irish Water customers were effected by the notice which started on 15 July.

Irish Water has invested almost €1 million at the Leenane Water Treatment Plant to ensure a safe and reliable supply of drinking water is now available.

Ger Greally, Irish Water O&M Lead for Galway City and County said: "Irish Water is delighted that this boil water notice has been lifted ahead of schedule and on budget. We acknowledge the work of Galway County Council in reaching this point and look forward to seeing the Leenane Public Water Supply being removed from the EPA's RAL later this year."

The Leenane Water Treatment Plant will now provide year-round protection against the range of contaminants found in the raw water. A coagulation, flocculation, and clarification process has been installed along with filtration and disinfection.
