Call For NI Executive To Invest In Transport Infrastructure

The SDLP is urging the NI Executive to invest in the poor transport infrastructure in Northern Ireland.

Regional Development Spokesperson John Dallat MLA recently tabled a motion at the Assembly for a capital investment plan in the North West.

Mr Dallat said: "There must be a collaborative strategy from Executive Departments for capital investment in roads, railways, airports and one which demands the support of the British and Irish Governments and the European Union.


"There is clear evidence that if the transport infrastructure issues are tackled we can begin to address the causes of deprivation. Already we can measure the success of investment in the Belfast-Derry railway which is increasingly bringing prosperity to Derry and the surrounding area. When finished the Belfast-Derry railway will be a major factor in enticing investors to locate in the North and North West.

"The availability of decent road infrastructure is critical to keeping business costs down when moving people, goods and services."
