More Progress Needed On Wind Turbine Regulation Bill - SF

Sinn Féin is urging the Environment Minister to further the progression of the Wind Turbine Regulation Bill through the Dáil.

The party's spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Deputy Michael Colreavy, said Irish communities want strict regulations to be introduced regarding the distance of wind turbines from dwellings.


Deputy Colreavy said: "Some of the proposed wind turbines in the Midlands region could be of a height of up to 180 metres. In our bill, we called for a pro-rata setback distance of ten times the height of the wind turbine to be imposed.

"Sinn Féin is fully supportive of renewable energy generation in Ireland, but the rights of local communities must not be trampled on."
