Refurbishment Works To Start At Hospital In Mullingar

Refurbishment works on the €4million upgrade of the Emergency department at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar is to begin on 6 May.

The existing A&E services will relocate to a temporary building at the hospital.

Fine Gael TD Gabrielle McFadden said: "The A&E upgrade will mean a better layout for both patients and staff and it is hoped that the refurbished facility will open by early 2016 at the very latest.

"Due to the temporary relocation of A&E services from Wednesday next, Mullingar Hospital is asking people to be aware of the external and internal signage in and around the hospital.

"I'm also glad to learn that planning for a larger project at the hospital, involving a new build, is also progressing well.

"This significant building project, costing in the region of €40million, will incorporate 4 new theatres, a new ICU, a new Endoscopy Unit with a Rehab Unit and therapy area to be located on another floor. The new building is to be located at the front of the hospital."
