Skip Hire Firm Owner Fined For Waste Offences

A skip hire company owner has been fined a total of £400 at Antrim Magistrates' Court.

Stephen Moran, of Grange Lane Mallusk, was fined £50 on each of eight charges, £34 costs and a £15 offenders levy after pleading guilty to a number of waste offences under the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.

Officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) carried out an inspection of A2B Skips on the Seven Mile Straight in January 2014, where they found skips containing mixed waste on the site, despite the fact that the site was not covered by a waste management licence.

During a follow up visit in August 2014, further waste was found on site.

He has since obtained a waste management licence for the site.
