Environmental Groups To Benefit From £2m Funding

£2 million from the Carrier Bag Levy is to be distributed to Environmental Groups suffering funding cuts.

Environment Minister Mark H Durkan confirmed the money will be used to deliver environmental priorities.

The Minister has developed a three-pronged plan to allocate the money.


£1m will be made available for a Natural Environment Fund. The Minister will convene a workshop on Thursday 23 April for relevant NGOs who have suffered cuts to their natural environment funds.

The second element of the plan is to provide £0.55m for DOE's Challenge Fund, targeted principally at schools and community groups.

Thirdly, the Minister will allocate a further £500,000 pounds for Listed Building Grants.
