SF Hit Out At Dublin Council Over Proposed Poolbeg Incinerator

Dublin City Council's meeting on the proposed Poolbeg incinerator has been branded a "sham" by Sinn Féin.

Sinn Féin has campaigned against the proposed incinerator since it was first introduced in 1998.

Dublin City Councillor, Daithí Doolan, said: "We need to tackle the crisis at source. To tackle the causes of the waste crisis we believe a Zero Waste Strategy needs to be adopted. This strategy is based on the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle.


"Building a mass burning utility will only serve to encourage consumption and rubbish. In fact the importation of waste is now a strong possibility simply to keep the mass burner is operation.

"The decision to go ahead with the incinerator has already been agreed by the CEO's of local authorities in Dublin. The Protection of Environment Act puts all the decision making power with the management. This is a travesty.

"Dublin City Council has consistently voted against this option. But unfortunately consecutive government and management has ignored the democratic wishes of Dublin."
