SDCC Urged To Cut Property Tax By 15%

South Dublin County Council (SDCC) is being urged to cut the property tax by 15% to help homeowners in Clondalkin, Lucan and Tallaght.

Following the Government's decision yesterday, South Dublin will retain 80% of the property tax collected in the county.

Labour TD Robert Dowds said: "Even with the full tax cut of 15% allowed by law, South Dublin County Council will still have an extra €1.6 million above what it was getting last year.


"This is because of the work which I and other Labour Party TDs did behind the scenes to ensure that as much of the local property tax stayed locally, to make sure that low and middle income families in urban areas like Clondalkin and Lucan would be in line for a property tax reduction.

"The original plan was for 65% of the tax to stay locally, but through the work of the Labour Party, we got that figure increased to 80%, and now hard pressed homeowners in Clondalkin, Lucan and Palmerstown can avail of a cut of 15% of their Property Tax bill without any cut to council services.

"I think that the council should cut the property tax by the full 15% as it can afford to do this and still be in the black to the tune of €1.6 million."
