Environmental Improvement Scheme Begins On Bridge Street

A single lane closure will be reintroduced at the £400,000 Environmental Improvement Scheme which started on April 1 at Bridge Street, Strabane.

The works are progressing well, with finished footway surface evident in places along the street. The scheme will strengthen and improve the quality of the footway carriageway on this important main route into Strabane Town Centre.

However, due to the restricted carriageway width available, and to help minimise any potential conflict between the site works and through traffic, it will be necessary to reintroduce a single lane closure on Bridge Street to traffic travelling out of the town centre. After a three week period of two way flow, there are plans to start the one way flow again on Wednesday 14 May for a period of seven weeks. The scheme is expected to be substantially completed seven weeks later at the end of June.

DRD has carefully reprogrammed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public but, regrettably, this partial closure is now unavoidable.

Motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys in the area. DRD will continue to monitor the impact the temporary traffic management measures are having on the town centre traffic and will make adjustments to those measures where it proves practical to do so.

A diversion route will be signposted via B72 Market Street, B72 Abercorn Square, B72 Railway Street, A5 Bradley Way and B72 Bradley Way.
