'Living Places', An Urban Stewardship and Design Guide for Northern Ireland (draft), which the Environment Minister Mark H Durkan launched on 8 August 2013, has been shortlisted by the Royal Town Planning Institute for the Innovative Planning Practice in Plan Making Award, in the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence 2014.

Mr Durkan said: "This unique urban stewardship and design guide signals a fresh and exciting new approach to planning for our villages, town and cities.
"The new guidance identifies people and place as the two central pillars of successful and sustainable urban areas. The document and importantly, the process used to compile it, are representative of a major shift in how planning will be structured and positioned in today's Northern Ireland.
"It recognises the central role that planning and design has to play in the creation and maintenance of great places old and new.
"Through this fresh approach to planning, great potential exists for Living Places to be a significant influence not only in the North, but also far beyond its shores."
