The Department for Social Development is committed under the Programme for Government to providing Masterplans for all urban towns and settlements in order to promote and implement a comprehensive approach to tackling social, economic and physical regeneration and redressing disadvantage in cities and towns across Northern Ireland.

Announcing funding Minister McCausland said: "Greenisland is an urban area within the Belfast Metropolitan Area which has yet to identify and explore fully those regeneration opportunities which may be gained for the benefit of the people who live and work there.
"The funding announced will allow for the appointment of consultants who will develop a comprehensive framework which will set out a strategic vision for Greenisland and the surrounding area. The regeneration development framework will also outline a programme of actions which will attract the future regeneration of the area."
