The plans include the sensitive conversion and sympathetic redevelopment of existing buildings and will include new housing along the waterfront.
Submitted by Larne Borough Council, it is the first part of their masterplan application for the regeneration of Glenarm
Mr Durkan said: "This is good news for the Glens and the Antrim Coast. This is a significant regeneration project for Glenarm, one of the North's oldest villages. Based on a carefully planned and community led regeneration strategy, I hope the village will become an example of best practice for the economic and social revitalisation of other coastal villages.

"For Glenarm it is just the first step. My officials are also working on the other key element of the village masterplan submitted by the Council. This includes proposals to promote tourism, including a new harbour park, public realm works, a restaurant and a proposed hotel.
"In addition, and as part of the wider regeneration of the old limestone quarry which once dominated the village, new housing and a touring caravan park are also planned. Subject to ongoing technical studies, I hope to be able to announce more good news early in the New Year on these aspects of the scheme."
