Conference To Be Held To Help The Construction Industry

SDLP MLA Patsy McGlone is to chair a major meeting discussing what can be done locally to ensure the appropriate mechanisms are in place to help significant infrastructure projects off the ground.

The Mid Ulster assemblyman, who is chair of the Assembly's DETI committee, will tomorrow, Tuesday 3 December greet dozens of delegates at the 23rd meeting of the All Party Working Group on Construction, of which he is chairperson.

Among those attending the one-day meeting at Stormont will be ministers from various departments including Regional Development; Health and Justice, alongside senior officials from DENI who will be giving updates on their capital projects. Attendees from across the construction sector, professional bodies, housing associations will also be in attendance.


Mr McGlone said: "This is a significant meeting of the people who are in government and understand how it all works, together with those who work in the construction industry.

"It is an important and valuable opportunity for people to knock heads together and see what can be done to make sure we get capital projects off the ground and what can be done to help companies and their employees in the construction sector who have suffered greatly in recent years due to the recession.

"Tomorrow we will be discussing and hearing direct from ministers how capital projects can be started without further delay, which include roads, sewerage, health and other major schemes such as Desertcreat Community Safety College."
