IPRA Launch Quality Assurance Scheme

Senator Mary Moran has welcomed the launch of the Quality Assurance Scheme by the Irish Petrol Retailers association (IPRA).

Speaking at the launch in Dundalk, Senator Moran said: "This scheme will ensure that motorists receive legitimate clean fuel when they fill up their vehicles at the pumps. Not only is the proliferation of illegal fuel causing untold damage to engines, it is costing the exchequer up to €200m a year in lost tax revenue.


"With this scheme, retailers who participate, and their clients, can be assured that the fuel is good, and that they are tax and VAT compliant. This scheme has come about at the request of some local retailers who want to see fuel laundering stamped out for good. Garages which sign up to the scheme, and there are 15 so far in Louth, have had their fuel tested and will have random, unannounced testing on an on-going basis.

"The IPRA have now launched a new application for mobile devices. The app will tell you where the nearest IPRA petrol station is, and the stations that have been recently tested will have the green tick logo displayed next to it."
