Construction News Image
Dinny McGinley TD, Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht welcomed the announcement by his colleague Phil Hogan TD, Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government that he has approved funding to allow Donegal County Council to award the €5.4m contract for the Dungloe and Glenties Sewerage Scheme.

The contract is being funded under the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2013.

Welcoming the news that this approval clears the way for Donegal County Council to complete the contract formalities with the successful contractor, Minister McGinley said: "This is a very important development for the communities of Glenties and Dungloe. I am delighted that this Government has been able to include these schemes in the ongoing Water Services Investment Programme. I hope now, that this process moves on as quickly as possible. Despite the difficult economic climate this allocation is a wonderful boost and I warmly welcome this announcement. These works when being carried out will also have an added benefit of providing much needed work in the locality which is so important to both residents and local businesses – and the wider community of Glenties and Dungloe."

The towns of Dungloe and Glenties each have wastewater treatment plants providing primary treatment of effluent and well developed sewer networks. This contract will provide a new state-of-the- art treatment plant, providing tertiary treatment for each town and will upgrade and expand the sewer networks.
