The Footprints Women's Centre, which has been an integral part of the Colin Glen community since 1991, received funding from the Big Lottery’s 'Energy Efficient Venues' Programme to install energy efficiency measures and renewable energy technology.
Minister Durkan said: "In the current financial climate it is more important than ever that we all look for ways in which we can become more resource efficient, thereby reducing costs and the impact on our environment.

"Launching an energy efficient centre like this showcases what can be achieved when a community works together with dedication and vision to become more sustainable. Initiatives such as the Big Lottery Energy Efficient Venues Programme has turned Footprints Women's Centre's vision into a reality."
By installing renewable energy technology in the form of solar panels and introducing energy efficiency measures such as cavity wall insulation and timer switches on lights, the Footprints Women's Centre will be able to improve the overall energy efficiency of its building, save on energy costs and reduce its carbon footprint.
This work complements the existing sustainable living projects at the Centre which includes a food growing garden and a recycling and educational programme.
