FG Welcomes Rebate On Diesel For Haulage Industry

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Michelle Mulherin, has welcomed the announcement by Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan TD, to introduce a rebate on diesel for the haulage industry. From July 1st 2013 hauliers will be able to recoup 7.5 cent on each litre of diesel purchased.

She said: "This is a lifeline for the haulage industry. It could literally make the difference for many hauliers between keeping their head above water and going out of business.


"The haulage industry plays a vital role in the running of our economy. Given that our economy recovery is so focused on our export performance, the importance of the haulage industry cannot be understated.

"Due to fluctuations in international oil rates the price of fuel has spiralled in recent years. This has placed hauliers, many of whom are self-employed, under severe pressure. Combined with the downturn in the economy and the increased scarcity of work, the haulage industry has suffered unduly in recent years.

"Having made representations to Minister Noonan on this issue, I am delighted that he has introduced this measure. I know that it will be warmly welcomed by the haulage industry."
