Sewer Improvement Works Continue In Ladybrook

Essential Sewer Improvement Work in the Ladybrook area of West Belfast continues to progress.

The original programme of work was scheduled to be completed in November 2012. However, due to further deterioration of the sewer network, this work has now been extended until April 2013.

Approximately £1 million in total will be invested in this programme of work, which will improve the current sewerage infrastructure, which is deteriorating, causing pipes to collapse and increasing the risk of out of sewer flooding in the area. Approximately 170 properties in the Ladybrook/Brooke area are currently directly affected by this programme of work and the site supervision team will be updating any other residents affected, well in advance of any additional work that may be required.

Davy McGrath Project Manager said: "While the extension to the work is not what we hoped for, it is not uncommon for a project of this size to encounter unexpected changes to the condition of the sewer network. Our teams are well equipped to deal with these changes in circumstances as they arise; however, they have resulted in the work carrying on longer than originally planned.

"This work is good news for the Ladybrook area as the project, once complete, will improve the local sewerage infrastructure and significantly reduce the possibility of out of sewer flooding in the area.

"In an attempt to minimise disruption to the local community and reduce the amount of waste material generated, the project team will use underground low-dig technology where possible. Therefore, a lot of this work will be completed without the need to open large trenches.

"In recognition of the extensive work carried out to date, I'd like to thank all householders affected by the works for their continued patience."
