Minister for Social Development, Nelson McCausland has announced a further funding package of £233,000 towards regeneration within the Craigavon Borough.
Lurgan and Portadown will each receive £100,000 of funding to help revitalise and rejuvenate their town centres and £33,000 of ‘Meanwhile Space’ funding will further assist the town centres by activating vacant commercial premises.
Mr McCausland said: "I am pleased to announce this further package of funding for the Craigavon Borough which will serve to further invigorate these two traditional market towns. I welcome the commitment from local traders and business owners to working in partnership with Council to deliver these projects. These initiatives can really make a difference to our town centres and can help to restore a sense of civic pride.
"As Minister for Social Development I am aware of the current difficulties facing our towns and cities. My Department has invested heavily in both Lurgan and Portadown town centres by way of Public Realm improvements and I feel strongly that the revitalisation proposals will anchor these improvements, providing a vital step in protecting the future prosperity and viability of the towns. The innovative 'Meanwhile Space' project will further enhance the vibrancy of the town centres and hopefully lead to sustainable businesses for the future, ensuring that both towns continue to strive to develop as enterprising, competitive and traditional market towns."
