Actress Charlene McKenna and comedian Dermot Whelan were in Dublin on Sunday 18th November, to announce details of the Electric Ireland Powering Kindness Week that is underway to generate positive goodwill around Ireland for the week, 17th - 23rd November, in aid of three selected charities: Special Olympics Ireland, Concern Worldwide and Focus Ireland.
At the end of the week, €100,000 will be donated to the charities by Electric Ireland.
During Powering Kindness Week Electric Ireland are inviting the public to do a good deed or an act of kindness and they will transform the good deeds into a donation for the three charities that are part of the campaign. Once a good deed is completed, it simply needs to be logged on the dedicated website and assigned to the charity of choice. There is no donation necessary, just assign it to the charity that you wish to benefit from the good deed. Deed doers can then pass the deed onto friends, family or strangers and share the kindness. There is no limit to the number of good deeds an individual can do and the charities will benefit from every act of kindness completed during the week.
At the end of the week, the charity with the greatest number of good deeds done in their name will receive a donation from Electric Ireland for €50,000 with the other two charities receiving donations of €25,000.
Commenting on the launch, Brid Horan, Executive Director of Electric Ireland said: "In Electric Ireland, we believe that small acts of kindness can make a big difference to people’s lives. For us, Powering Kindness is about putting our brand behind people’s kindness and generosity of spirit and supporting three very worthwhile charities. We hope that people will take the opportunity to offer a kind act and pledge it to their chosen charity."
