"DRD Roads Service received a number of requests for a controlled crossing on this stretch of road. The proposal was assessed and prioritised against other similar sites in Western Division and was included in the programme of works for this year."

The decision to provide Puffin Crossings is based upon criteria relating to the number of pedestrians crossing the road and the volume of vehicles using it. This is to ensure that a crossing located where there is the greatest demand.

Minister Danny Kennedy said: "The main consideration in choosing the location for The Brook crossing was to have it as close as possible to the Round ‘O’ park yet attract the highest number of students walking to and from Portora Royal School. There were also engineering considerations such as the proximity of nearby junctions and the presence of other street furniture."
