Speaking from Marlborough Terrace, Cllr Boyle said: "I welcome this fast and decisive action from SDLP Minister Alex Attwood which will support Derry City Council in stabilising the wall and will help people living in the Marlborough Terrace area.

"Residents here are totally distraught following the wall collapse over the past few days and the SDLP Minister's unambiguous pledge is very reassuring and demonstrates the positive way in which central government can work with local government to improve conditions for people in Derry.
"Rather than simply offering tea and sympathy, I urge other Stormont ministers to follow Alex Attwood's example and to act pragmatically within the remit of their departments to improve this awful situation for people."
