McCausland Celebrates Refurbished Spectrum Centre

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has visited the refurbished Spectrum Centre on the Shankill Road, Belfast.

The Greater Shankill Partnership received almost £270,000 from the Department’s Modernisation Fund Capital Programme to significantly increase services to the local community with an emphasis on the arts and young people.

Speaking at an event to celebrate the building improvements Minister McCausland said: "I welcome the refurbishment and modernisation of Spectrum Centre. I am delighted to see how the new facilities are being used to form partnerships and ultimately benefit the people of the Greater Shankill. The Modernisation Fund has been very successful in helping voluntary and community organisations to offer new and better services to the community and to become more sustainable."


The refurbishment of the Centre included purchasing IT equipment, furniture, air conditioning, stage equipment and new sound, lighting and projection equipment. The restaurant area was re-painted and new furniture provided and mirrored walls and ballet barres added to the dance studio. Several areas of the Centre were redesigned to improve accessibility and comfort for its users.
