Limerick Hospital Plan Is Opposed

A planned Limerick medical facility is on hold after news that the proposed private day hospital at the Parkway Shopping Centre has been appealed to An Bord Pleanala.

Limerick City Council had granted planning permission to the facility, which would see the demolition of the Park Bar to allow construction work to get underway.

It would then be replaced with a three-storey private hospital.


The building would contain a day surgery, a treatment centre and medical treatment services, according to the proposals lodged by Dublin-based developers Lindat.

These will be coupled with administration offices, internal services, and a reception with a cafe, as well as a new entrance onto the neighbouring Childers Road.

But the proposals will now come before the national planning authority following an appeal by a couple who live close to the development and have expressed fears over the height of the development.

They are concerned about the height of the proposed building and said it would detract from the local area, "as most houses are bungalows".
