Premises on one of the main streets of Dundalk are set to be remodelled with the news that the former Toymaster shop is to be refitted as a supermarket.

The Clanbrassil Street premises will be transformed into a food retail unit, adding a minor boost to the building sector in the process.

Clanbrassil Street in the border town was severely affected by the economic crisis and the past two years has seen the closure of a number of retail units.


The closures led local commercial agents, Town Centre Manager Andrew Mawhinney and his board and Dundalk Town Council to band together to devise a strategy to revitalise the street.

Now, there has a "genuine drive" to attract retailers back to Clanbrassil Street.

Clanbrassil Street recently saw the return of Hughes & Hughes - the popular book retailer had been closed for several months while the company was restructured.

Clanbrassil Street is also the new home of 'Paradize', which sells fashion jewellery, bags and accessories; and later next month the former Dearey's Menswear premises is due to re-open as a bridal shop, adding increased levels of business for shopfitters and specialists in interior refits.
