Ziplok Adds Style To Altnagelvin Hospital

In the second of a projected five phase redevelopment of Altnagelvin Hospital in Northern Irelands’ second city of Derry, 1500m2 of RigiSystems Ziplok aluminium standing seam roofing have been used to provide a distinctive and ‘space age’ feel to its curved plant rooms.

The building incorporates the most up to date roofing and cladding systems available in terms of aesthetics, longevity and durability, and the Ziplok is used in both a self curved and crimp curved application to provide the distinctive appearance.

The introduction of green roof on the project helps significantly to reduce the carbon footprint of the building. Originally the first hospital built in the whole of the United Kingdom after the Second World War, Altnagelvin is now the main hospital for the North West of Northern Ireland and employs over 2000 health care professionals.

Architects were Hall Black Douglas with HLM, and the roofing contractor was Thornton Roofing who have already completed work on phase one which houses the laboratories and pharmacy. Ziplok is a BBA approved, advanced zip-up standing seam system that offers exceptional weather resistance and durability. The unique halter design complements the design of the liner (20/100/1000) in a way which leaves almost no possibility of error in setting out the roof and so allows for fast and trouble free laying of the profiles.
