£870k Improvements For Lisburn Residents

Over £870,000 is to be spent on renovating kitchens owned by the Housing Executive in Lisburn.

Works will be undertaken on properties in the Glenbawn area of the city.

District Manager Danny Cochrane said 191 homes will benefit from the improvement scheme.

Mascott Construction, who was awarded the contract, said it expects to complete the work in approximately eight weeks.

Margaret McCourt, a Glenbawn Walk resident for 21 years, said she is enjoying the benefits of her new kitchen.

"I am very pleased with my new kitchen. It is a big improvement on the original one. I was able to choose the worktop and kitchen units before they were fitted, and they look really well. The kitchen is more modern and there is now a better dining area," she said.

"The workmen were very helpful during the course of the work and I was kept up to date with what was going to happen."

Margaret Kennedy, Chairperson of Glenbawn Residents Association, has also welcomed the start of the work.

"We have been campaigning for a number of years to have the kitchens replaced in the Glenbawn estate and we were delighted when we were informed by our district office that work was finally going to start.

"The new partnering contract that the Housing Executive has introduced will mean that the contractor works more closely with the tenants and provides a Tenant Liaison Officer to iron out any difficulties."
