Concrete Investment Saves Jobs

One of Ireland's largest concrete producers has secured 120 jobs through a €30m investment, it has been confirmed.

Kilsaran Group said the move will create 50 new jobs as well ensuring the retention of current staff.

Transport Minister Noel Dempsey officially opened the firm's new 14-acre Co Meath site last week.

It encompasses a paving manufacturing and processing plant, showroom and landscaped display gardens in Dunboyne.

As part of its overall investment, the Kilsaran Group has re-branded its paving division as Kilsaran Lifestyle.

The investment is a result of the changing dynamic of the traditional construction business which is down by as much as 50%, according to the firm.

Kilsaran said it had proceeded with the investment programme despite the worsening economic climate and downturn in the construction industry.

Management say they believe consumers will invest more in improving and renovating their gardens as opposed to moving house.

Minister Dempsey said: "Kilsaran Group, in embracing new technologies, is pushing the boundaries in landscape innovation, providing additional employment and helping to generate consumer confidence.

"The unveiling of this impressive facility is a proud day for everyone involved in bringing the development to fruition, and represents a major boost for the local economy and further afield."

David McKeown, Kilsaran Group Company Director said the investment represents an exciting new chapter and a fresh approach.

"This new facility will allow Kilsaran to significantly expand its product range and increase the choice of product finishes, while a new R&D laboratory will ensure that the product range continues to grow and maintain its leading position in the Irish market."

The group currently employs more than 450 at 18 locations around the country and has been a supplier to major projects such as the National Convention Centre, Dublin Airport, the M50 and Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.
